Where are Seiko watches made?
The majority of Seiko's mainstream range — Prospex, Presage, and Seiko 5 Sports — is manufactured in Japan. Some entry-level quartz models are produced in Malaysia and Singapore. Seiko's premium lines, including Grand Seiko, are assembled by hand at the Shizuku-Ishi Watch Studio in Iwate, Japan.
What is the difference between Seiko Prospex and Presage?
Prospex is Seiko's sport and outdoor collection — dive watches, field watches, and solar chronographs built for active use and rated to 200m water resistance. Presage is the dress watch line, focused on refined Japanese aesthetics, cocktail-inspired dials, and elegant case finishing. Prospex for the ocean or trail; Presage for the office or a formal occasion.
Do Seiko automatic watches need a battery?
No. Seiko automatic watches are powered entirely by the movement of your wrist — a rotor inside the watch winds the mainspring as you move. If you stop wearing the watch for a few days, it will run down and stop, which is normal. Simply wind it manually by pulling the crown to position 2 and turning clockwise 10–20 times, then set the time and wear it.
How long do Seiko automatic watches last?
Indefinitely with proper care. Seiko recommends a service every 3–5 years for automatic movements to keep them running accurately and protect against wear. Many Seikos from the 1960s are still in daily use. The quality of Seiko's in-house movements means a well-maintained watch can realistically last a lifetime.
